“Promotion??? Depends on your luck. Some could end as Commissioner but most would retire without any promotion. There are 400 AAs and 22x Assessors (56k-99k per month). Good exits to private tax-related sectors.” – Anonymous – 24.8.2017
“Rumours reveals the promotion prospect is bad, even every commissioner starts their career from AA rank. A number of AAs need to work for 12-20+ years for doubling up the rank as Assessor. It’s also common for AAs to retire without any promotion (but they are earning almost $50k/month). However, owing to relatively high turnover rate and retirement of old officers, the prospect might get better.“– Anonymous – 18.8.2017
“-assessing tax liabilities of taxpayers
-conduct in-depth tax audits on selected cases, and come up with penalty package with taxpayer if necessary
-deal with taxpayers’ enquiries” – Anonymous – 24.8.2017
“It welcomes accounting graduates/QP student members who are university fresh graduates. But some people do have 1-5 years of work experiences before joining IRD.
The work can be very different in different units. Most officers are responsible for issuing tax assessments and conduct simple tax audit. We also have some staff members dedicated for in-depth audit and investigation in some cases. However, having good EQ is a must, as we need to answer phone calls from the public and discuss tax law violation penalty with taxpayers.”– Anonymous – 18.8.2017
“Depends on which boss u follow“- Anonymous – 24.8.2017
“Depends on who is your boss. There are so many girls in the department. It also has a sport association offering lots of leisure activities and members’ welfare. But you need to expect soem equipment or ways to do things are outdated in an old office, like not having scanner for most office staff.“– Anonymous – 18.8.2017
